Ahead of its official opening this spring, Templeton Garden is excited to reveal details of its contemporary interiors, in collaboration with some of the most highly-acclaimed British designers, studios and consultancies in the industry; Thurstan, Holland & Harvey, Cox London, Tess Newall, and Art Story. Templeton Garden is the latest launch from the new lifestyle hotel brand, Miiro, known for creating Brilliantly Considered stays in Europe’s most interesting neighbourhoods, with hotels in Paris, Barcelona, Gstaad and more in the pipeline for 2025 and beyond.
Located in leafy and historic Earl’s Court, Templeton Garden is a rare oasis in the cosmopolitan capital boasting 156-rooms and a beautifully landscaped private garden for guests to enjoy. The hotel will be home to a café-meets-deli, a modern British restaurant, cocktail bar, a state-of-the-art gym, in addition to a Refresh Room, a Miiro signature feature, which allows guests to freshen up at any time, including before check-in and after check-out, with changing rooms, showers and toiletries. Upholding the area’s leafy heritage, the beautiful garden forms the green heart of the hotel, a peaceful sanctuary where contemporary design meets British elegance.
The project has been overseen by interior designer James Thurstan Waterworth, from esteemed design studio Thurstan, recognised for his notable work as Design Director at Soho House and the creation of several members clubs. Thurstan approached the project at Templeton Garden with the aim to embrace the building’s historical architecture. This meant incorporating traditional shapes and details, whilst adopting a lighter and more refined aesthetic. Thurstan wanted the garden to influence the entire space, since this is such a unique quality for a London based property, therefore subtle elements from the leafy green exterior have been woven into the bar, restaurant and the carefully curated artworks. Thurstan’s goal was to create a space with dynamic energy and a comfortable atmosphere, this meant striking a balance between evoking a home-from-home feel and a thoughtfully curated space. To combine these two elements, Thurstan used upcycled materials and antique furniture, sourced locally and collaborated with London based craftsmen to create unique statement features for the hotel.
James Thurstan Waterworth said, “It’s been a pleasure working on the project, we’re so excited to see Templeton Garden come to life. Working with old buildings is always a fascinating process—there’s a unique thrill in engaging with their history, stories, and the energy they’ve accumulated over the years. Bringing together an incredible team of British designers has been such a collaborative experience, and the synergy formed has resulted in a unique, serene space that we are looking forward to guests experiencing.”

Holland & Harvey – Architecture
Holland & Harvey, London based architecture and interior design studio, were appointed the lead consultants, tasked with overseeing the complete refurbishment of the property. This entailed coordinating structural works, designing the extension into the garden and managing the interior design expectations. The design inspiration behind the garden extension, was the Victorian orangery, which was used as the basis in this instance, but reimagined with contemporary architectural language. The design studio had a really strong vision in mind for the property, to forge a strong connection to the community and make the hotel feel a part of it, not apart from it. This notion has been brought to life, with the material palette used on the façade.
Cox London – Bar Light Installation
Templeton Garden commissioned interior art studio Cox London, to design and craft a custom lighting sculpture in the bar space. The aim was to create an organic, artistic spectacle intended to spark conversation and create a calm, naturalistic ambience where guests can enjoy a drink. The finished design features an illuminated oak branch chandelier that echoes the surrounding parks, bringing the outside in, and incorporates a nod to the properties own vibrant garden. The bespoke statement light has been hand-forged in metal by the team of highly skilled artisans in Cox London’s north London atelier, each leaf and detail on the chandelier has been hand-painted using a unique patina recipe and brings the piece to life by borrowing from nature’s late summer palette.
Tess Newall – Bar & Restaurant Mural
Templeton Garden’s sophisticated and elegant restaurant and bar is home to a unique mural, designed and hand-painted on site by decorative artist Tess Newall. The brief was to create a mural for the restaurant and bar that draws inspiration from the foliage growing in the property’s garden and referencing the name of the bar, ‘Sprout’. The West London and East Sussex based artist has brought this vision to life, painting softly layered silhouettes of branches into a textured lime wash background, and in homage to the term ‘sprout’, Tess has incorporated new leaves and buds growing on the occasional branch. Inspired by the delicate shadows and silhouettes of sunlight coming through swaying tree canopies, the mural uses an earthy colour palette that pairs coherently with Cox London’s oak branch chandelier that hangs in the centre of the room.
Art Story – Artwork & Library Collection – Public Spaces, Bedrooms and Library
Having worked with Miiro’s earlier properties, Le Grand Hôtel Cayré in Paris and Borneta in Barcelona, Art Story were tasked with curating a carefully considered art collection for display throughout Templeton Garden, from the public spaces to the bedrooms and suites. It was important that the artwork selected was in keeping with Thurstan’s neutral interior, and celebrated local talent. Art Story chose to collaborate with contemporary British painter Bethany Holmes to house some of her beautiful abstract originals for the restaurant, bar and library areas. This collaboration has been further echoed throughout the hotel, with each room showcasing a small signed limited edition work by Holmes next to the headboard. The pieces chosen by Art Story have the local neighbourhood at their core. The works selected focus on mark making and the artistic process, in a subtle reference to Earl’s Court’s rich creative heritage, once home to Beatrix Potter and Agatha Christie, but also draw inspiration from the history of Kensington as a borough, which was once the rural outskirts of London. In commissioning Bethany Holmes, Art Story found the perfect harmony between these two elements, her expressive contemporary abstracts have a Turner-esque quality that play with light and celebrate nature in a non-representational way.
To further honour the rich cultural heritage of Earl’s Court and the borough’s connection to literature, music and creatives, Templeton Garden features its own Library. This space has been crafted as a cultural hub for guests to reflect, housing a thoughtfully curated collection of books and objects that nod to the narratives found throughout the hotel. The curated collection will be an evolving space and cultural heart of the hotel, with support from Art Story.
