The awards honoured many household names from Ocado to Pepsi but one of the most notable wins came from RAJA UK who stand as the only winner of two Gold awards for their recyclable, paper based cold chain products, the Climapack kit and Climaliner paper. These products are kerbside recyclable and provide cool temperatures for packaged contents for up to 35 hours.
RAJA UK is delighted to announce that its Climapack Kit has been awarded Gold in the chilled packaging category at the 2024 Environmental Packaging Awards. This prestigious accolade recognises the Climapack Kit as a leading sustainable solution for chilled food packaging. The kit, which includes the recyclable ClimaLiner paper, provides an eco-friendly alternative to traditional polystyrene packaging, keeping products chilled for up to 35 hours. RAJA UK is proud to be at the forefront of developing innovative, paper-based packaging solutions that minimise environmental impact.
The ClimaLiner paper itself also won an award in the pet food category for the same properties, making RAJA the only double Gold Award winner for this years awards.
Founded 70 years ago, RAJA is a European Leader in packaging and was founded on a culture of sustainability – the very first boxes were recycled in post-WWII Paris and the company was created by two women. The current owner, Daniele Marcovici, continues to run a charitable foundation dedicated to caring for Women and the Environment.
The Environmental Packaging Awards were part of the 2024 Environmental Packaging Live event held in London in combination with the Environmental Packaging Summit. The summit featured key discussions on crucial topics legislation, net-zero challenges and waste management and the awards ceremony celebrated outstanding achievements and significant innovators.
The awards could be given for Gold, Silver or Bronze and the judging panel could decide whether a product rated one of these three distinctions. It was possible to win the category but only be awarded a silver if they felt it wasn’t truly a gold standard. Despite this high standard, the Climapack Kit won Gold in the chilled or frozen category and the Climaliner won gold for the pet food category.
For the judges, Jude Allan, Managing Director of OPRL and Chair of the IOM3 Packaging Group, said “It was great to see RAJA UK winning Gold. It was such a beautifully simple, easy to use and effective solution. The simplicity of the design is the thing that cuts through but don’t underestimate the complexities of designing, creating, developing and testing the product.”
