Hiring Trends for 2024

How Business Leaders Can Transform Their Recruitment Procedures

Firms in the US, UK, and EU are challenged with filling up job vacancies due to pandemic-related phenomena such as the “great resignation”, where employees shifted industries or left their jobs for better work-life balance.

Businesses all over the world have been struggling with worker shortages in recent years.  A decline in workers aged 35 years and under and an ageing workforce has also contributed to hiring issues. Many recruiters are facing these struggles for the first time, and navigating them will require a lot of change in current recruitment procedures. As a result, new hiring trends have emerged and are redefining the landscape, and this trajectory is set to continue in 2024. Here are some potential hiring trends for 2024 that business leaders can use to transform recruitment practices:

AI recruitment

Artificial intelligence (AI) has been revolutionising industries, and in 2024, it could play a massive role in addressing staffing shortages and attracting talent. Businesses and recruitment firms are utilising generative AI to boost efficiencies and candidate pools. AI can be used to write and assess job adverts, increasing applications by reaching a wider group of potential candidates with diverse backgrounds. AI helps speed up recruitment processes and addresses more menial tasks, allowing employers to focus on interacting and connecting with a candidate.

AI has also become a popular tool with candidates as well. Generative AI can create and improve employee’s résumés in seconds, allowing them to curate their CVs and gear them towards their first-choice companies. Though AI can be a helpful tool for recruiters, 2024 may see the rise of a more human approach to these tech solutions. AI can make the recruitment process more efficient, but human employers will still need to assess candidates and ensure that they’re a good fit for the business.

Recruitment solutions

With staff shortages plaguing businesses across industries, finding and retaining top talent has become a significant concern for recruiters. Many are revamping their hiring processes and benefits packages to combat these challenges, but a rise in direct hire services may occur in 2024 to further assist companies in filling positions.

These recruitment solutions allow firms to tap into a qualified talent pool and rely on these hiring services so they can focus on core business activities. Direct hiring services utilise the help of industry experts and are committed to understanding each business’s needs to bring candidates with unique qualifications to the company. The staffing as a service market is already poised to grow in 2024 and beyond, boasting a growth rate of 7.1%.

Continued focus on mental health

Workers are demanding more from their employers now that the work culture has shifted. Work-life balance is a top priority, workplace equity and inclusion are being sought out, and flexible work setups are becoming non-negotiables for many. All of these may seem isolated from each other, but they all contribute to a continuously growing trend of workplace mental health. As such, the trend of employees seeking out mental health provisions from businesses is set to continue, especially as more Gen-Z members start entering the workforce in 2024.

Businesses will have to improve mental health measures, such as policies against discrimination, genuine flexibility and personal support, a welcoming and safe environment, and more so that they are able to cater to employee needs. However, if these efforts are not genuine, workers will find no problem shifting to another workplace if their standards are not met.
