Alstef Group will embark on a substantial overhaul of the current domestic terminal baggage handling system, encompassing automated sortation and a comprehensive upgrade of the inline checked bag security screening to meet the latest global standards.
Gert-Jan de Graff, CEO of Brisbane Airport emphasized that this transition marks a tremendous improvement for both travellers and the dedicated staff working within the baggage areas. He stated, “Currently our baggage system consists of three different systems and they’re not talking to each other. We’re building a new system that works for all airlines in the same way for check-in as well as reclaim of baggage. This unified baggage system represents a crucial step towards enhancing the overall travel experience at Brisbane Airport.”
With a proven track record in complex upgrade works, Alstef Group is well-equipped to tackle the intricacies of modernizing the baggage handling system while mitigating impact on operations. To facilitate the complex planning, the project schedule has been meticulously divided into nearly a hundred distinct phases. Mr de Graff acknowledges the challenges posed by conducting extensive construction while maintaining the smooth operation of the terminals. He aptly described it as “like an open-heart surgery while running a marathon.”
CEO Nicolas Breton reaffirms Alstef Group’s steadfast dedication to this significant project, noting, “With a cumulative contract value nearing €100 million, our commitment to the success of the Brisbane Airport baggage handling upgrades remains unwavering. We are focused on delivering excellence at every step.” This partnership signifies a strong commitment to precision, dependability, and ingenuity, poised to make a lasting impact on the future of Brisbane Airport and the travel experiences of its passengers.
