Thomas Flohr: Building VistaJet

Established in 2004, VistaJet was created to provide an efficient way to fly around the world, proving popular with business travellers who prefer to not have to own an aircraft.

After VistaJet’s founder, Thomas Flohr, became frustrated with the logistics and unreliability of the private plane sector in his previous job, he was inspired to build a brand with a truly global vision.

The beginnings

Flohr started the company by buying one plane. Rather than basing his jet in one location, he knew it made more sense to charter from various regions across the world. So, he came up with the idea of chartering his jet from wherever it was travelling to, meaning clients had greater access to a variety of locations.

He also simplified the contract process, knowing that clients would be deterred by lengthy paperwork. The streamlined process meant that it was easier to find a luxury, private jet experience without the organisational hassle.

Flohr knew that simplicity, availability and experience needed to be at the heart of Vista private aviation, so that’s what he based his company on.

The growth of VistaJet

Flohr’s company now has a global fleet which travels to and from 187 countries with a team of 1,500 aviation experts across 60 different nationalities, available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Clients can fly to one of over 1,900 airports across the world in 96% of countries and can expect a tailored flight experience. And each aircraft has the same iconic look, allowing clients to focus on what they need to without distraction.

Regular clientele of VistaJet includes business leaders, CEOs, ultra-high-net-worth clients and celebrities. Once on board, they enjoy tailored luxury, fine wine, the ultimate dining experience and many other comforts that allow them to travel safely and efficiently.

Challenges for the future

VistaJet continues to garner the success of its business model, achieving strong growth during the first quarter of 2023. However, the future is not without its challenges, with sustainability being a top priority.

VistaJet has pledged to become carbon neutral by 2025. The means to achieve this is focused on five keys areas:

  • Sustainable aviation fuel: produced from sustainable resources like waste oils and agricultural residues, this type of fuel can reduce emissions by over 85% compared to standard fuel.
  • Auditing: third-party auditing ensures commitments are being fulfilled and VistaJet is on the right track to achieving its goals.
  • Offsetting: VistaJet is committed to supporting sustainability projects across the world.
  • Aircraft efficiency: innovative aircraft engineering allows for a reduction in fuel consumption.
  • Artificial intelligence: harnessing AI technology, VistaJet’s systems can optimise for altitude, speed and the route to achieve sustainable air travel.

Whatever the future holds for private air travel, it’s clear to see that VistaJet is committed to staying ahead of the game in terms of challenges, client needs and the wider economy.
