Stadtwerke Amberg puts the Amberg open-space photovoltaic system into operation

Approximately 2000 households in and around Amberg will benefit from solar power in the future. Stadtwerke Amberg and GOLDBECK SOLAR commissioned the new 7 MWp ground-mounted photovoltaic system at the Gewerbegebiet West on 26 June. A contribution to sustainable energy supply and biodiversity in the region.

The Amberg public utility company has undertaken the task of expanding renewable energy production and making the region fit for the future. Together with GOLDBECK SOLAR, the Amberg ground-mounted system was realised in the West industrial estate. This initiative makes a significant contribution to the local energy transition by providing solar power to approximately 2000 households on a 7.3-hectare area. GOLDBECK SOLAR is pleased about the successful cooperation.

“Achieving a secure and sustainable energy supply is one of the greatest challenges of our time,” says Michael Cerny, Mayor of Amberg and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Stadtwerke Amberg. “We are committed to consistently pursuing the path of decarbonization and, as part of this goal, harnessing the available opportunities for renewable energy generation within the city area.”

The Amberg solar project not only generates climate-friendly electricity but also contributes to biodiversity as an entire area. To achieve this, diverse plants were carefully selected and incorporated into the site, providing habitats for insects, birds, and other animals. The concept was developed in cooperation with the Amberg-Sulzbach district group of the Landesbund für Vogel- und Naturschutz in Bayern e. V. (Bavarian Society for the Protection of Birds and Nature) and supported by the animal conservationists. “It was important to us to create new habitats for small creatures, plants/hedges and birds within the open-air photovoltaic system as well,” explains Martin Malitzke, the technical manager and authorised signatory of Stadtwerke Amberg Versorgungs GmbH. “So, in future, we will not only be able to showcase our renewable generation on the site, but also the odd nesting box, insect hotel and natural greening.”

“The inauguration of the Amberg solar park not only marks a milestone in the development of renewable energies in the region,” emphasises GOLDBECK SOLAR COO Tobias Schüßler, “it also represents the result of our unwavering commitment to a sustainable future together with the Amberg municipal utility. We take pride in achieving this momentous milestone and express our gratitude to all those involved who have contributed to the success of this project. The Amberg solar park symbolizes our vision of a green and emission-free world. With every ray of sunlight generated here, we are driving the transition towards a clean energy supply and setting an example for a sustainable future.”
